Job Description:

A Civil Designer specializing in SP3D (SmartPlant 3D) is responsible for creating and managing 3D models of civil and structural elements in engineering projects, often within the oil and gas or related industries. They utilize SP3D software to develop detailed designs, generate drawings, and ensure designs adhere to project specifications, codes, and standards. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • 3D Modeling:
    Developing and managing 3D models of civil and structural components using SP3D software. 
     
  • Drawing Production:
    Creating General Arrangement (GA) drawings, foundation layouts, steel structure designs, and reinforced concrete details. 
     
  • Collaboration:
    Working closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g., piping, electrical) to integrate models and ensure design consistency. 
     
  • Clash Detection:
    Identifying and resolving clashes or interferences within the 3D model. 
     
  • Model Review:
    Participating in model reviews and implementing necessary design changes. 
     
  • Compliance:
    Ensuring all designs comply with relevant international codes, client standards, and project specifications. 
     
  • Deliverables:
    Generating 2D drawings, material take-offs (MTOs), and other project deliverables from the 3D model. 
     
  • Coordination:
    Coordinating with other designers, drafters, and engineers to ensure smooth workflow and design accuracy. 
     
  • Site Visits:
    May involve site visits to gather information or provide engineering support. 
     
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • SP3D Proficiency: Expert knowledge of SmartPlant 3D (SP3D) software. 
     
  • Civil/Structural Design Knowledge: Understanding of civil and structural design principles, including steel and concrete detailing. 
     
  • Drawing Production: Ability to create various types of engineering drawings (GA drawings, layouts, etc.). 
     
  • Clash Detection: Experience with clash detection and resolution within 3D models. 
     
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and teamwork skills. 
     
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., oil and gas). 
     
  • Education: Typically a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
